Teacher, illustrator, former designer and mountain climbing guide on Mt. Rainier, Kurt is a crafter of images, drawings, maps and sketchbook journals to suit the needs of a diverse range of clients. His strengths have been in art directing illustrators and identifying new talent and grooming that talent. Having spent 23 years in the world of advertising and design firms, Kurt has art directed dozens of illustrators from all over the country. His design work has been for clients such at: US Bank, Shurgard Storage, Kenworth Trucks, Washington State Lottery. Gardenburger, Burgerville, Contemporary Crafts Gallery, Nordstrom, Royal Robbins, AT&T Wireless, Warn Industries, Beringer Blass Wine Estates, Tommy Bahama and Hi-Tec Sports/USA.
His work focuses on attaining a personal, delight driven sensibility. His Journal for Chronicle Books showcase this- On Foot, In Gear and the Adventure Journal. His sketchbooks appear in ‘An Illustrated Life: Drawing Inspiration from the Private Sketchbooks of Artists, Illustrators and Designers’ By Danny Gregory.
Kurt has taught Drawing and Beginning Illustration at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR for the past 9 years. Married to Sharon for 28 years and father of 6 children. Living in Lake Oswego, OR where he enjoys walks with Sharon in the 52 acres of woods behind their house with their Black Lab, Abby.
